Let me rest with my feet on the bottom
water a deafening cocoon around my body
surface light barely a glimmer
a hand just beyond my grasp
I stand flat-footed – no hint of straining upward
peace in its negative form
one day I’ll periscope my head above the water
maybe even be amphibious again, but for now
just let me rest with my feet on the bottom
